Shin splints is not fun. I thought it was over but not true. The last run was pain free. After the run I stretched and did strength training. The next day I felt pain in my leg later in the afternoon. I searched on the internet seeking alternatives to cardio vascular training. Since running is out of the picture for the next week or so, I plan to ride a bike in lieu of running. You know what that means?? Ab work!! Ugh! I just started last week and it is a killer. I will continue ice, rest and stretch. Let see what happnes. I am not happy about it :( but at the same time I need to move forward in a responsible and reasonable pace.

This weather is wonderful. Running under the stars on the trail is great. The scent of the pepper trees after the rain is enough motivation to run with determination. I just love the scent. I focus mainly on getting back to my routine. It will take patience and perseverence. Since I am not training for an event I have the time to regain strength and endurance. I still ice and stretch. It has helped my rode to recovery from shin splints immensely. I want to thank everyone for helping me through this time. A shout out to Mitch- I plan to try that strenghening exercise you sent me.Thanks!!

Asian quinoa with shrimp, baby asparagus and red bell pepper. The side dish was a warm brussel sprout salad with toasted walnuts. It was all good.

Well, shin splints have kept me down for the last week. Tonight I tried a three mile run. No pain before the run. After finishing the run I stretched and iced the leg. I will find out tomorrow if I can continue to run. It feels good to run without pain.

My wife works on tuesday nights I did not want to eat dinner without her so I went on a run and stretched. I arranged it so by the time I finished my run she would be home. If I did not do that I would be snacking and eating stuff I should not be eating before dinner. It worked and dinner was great. For those who are interested, dinner consisted of red potatoes quartered, stir fried string beans, tuna , chopped up romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes;all tossed and drizzled with italian dressing. On the side rosemary dinner roll. Bon Appetite.
