Lower back pain

Posted by runninng4jesus under: Uncategorized.

As of today, my lower back is sore. Ever since the long distance walk last Saturday my lower back has not completely healed. My legs and ankles are fine. My job requires a lot of computer work. So I am sitting most of the day. I will try to walk tonight and see what happens.

The final count

Posted by runninng4jesus under: Uncategorized.

After walking 18 miles and running 15 last week I gained three pounds. I can accept that, considering how much I ate this weekend. As soon as my lower back heals, I will get back in the groove. I must confess the food was good and I enjoyed every bite.

Pain! Pain!-Run/Walk 11/29/08

Posted by runninng4jesus under: Walk.

My friend and I decided to walk 18 miles. We planned it a few weeks ago. I figure if we can survive this we will definitely be able to run the half marathon in January. We finished and will resume training in a few days. Overall, there was pain and more pain. Both of us ran when walking was too painful. We finished under five hours and felt good about it. I hope it will prepare us for the half marathon and full marathon in January.

Thanksgiving was a hit! 11/28/08

Posted by runninng4jesus under: Uncategorized.

Since my wife and I hosted this year’s Thanksgiving get together, I was not sure I would be able to participate in an orgainized “Turkey Trot”. Well, taking the day off before Thanksgiving I treated myself to the first annual “Turkey Trot”. I was the organizer, promoter, and lone particpant. The goody bag consist of sports beans and a bottle of water. No music just God’s country to motivate me. I woke up early Thanksgiving morning and went out on a run. During my journey I saw a few people either running or walking. There were a group of women walking toward me on the trail. As I ran pass them they did not say much. I said, “Good morning.” Only one of the six ladies responded back. Most of them were talking among themselves while enjoying their walk. Most of the people I passed I wished them a Happy Thanksgiving. Some did not know what to say and others responded accordingly. Overall it was a good run and I thanked the Lord for giving me the strength, energy and time to run this morning.
Thinking back on what took place Thanksgiving Day I am very thankful for the healthy relationships we have within our families. Everyone mixed it up. There was a wide range of topics that filled the air. All of it was good. How could I tell? There was a lot of laughing. It is so good to see families get together and a have a wonderful time on Thanksgiving.
As far as the food, there was no lack thereof. Outside of your “traditional” turkey, ham sweet potatoes and real mash potatoes, the culinary spread was a delight to see and engage, From collard greens with black eyed peas and ham, Filopino cuisine, all different types of salads ( no jello or green bean cassorole-no love lost there), interesting vegatable dishes to killer homemade pies and finger sweets, there was no lack of going home hungry. With all that said,”How did I do?” I did okay. This Thanksgiving was not a sit down dinner due to the number of people. After the prayer of thanks everyone lined up behind the buffet table. I was very careful what I placed on my plate. There were more items of food that I did not eat on a regular basis so that made it difficult. I had my traditional after dinner turkey sandwich. Throughout the evening I gravitated toward the desserts (my weakness) and cruched down a lot of peanuts. If I were to rate my eating choices and the quantiy thereof (one being terrible bad and ten being a saint) it was a six- I enjoyed the things I ate with relative moderation.
Friday is my day off.Saturday my friend and I will attempt a seventeen mile walk-pain and all.I will let you know how we do.

A Run Before Thanksgiving

Posted by runninng4jesus under: Run.

Today is my day off. Opening the sliding glass door I realized rain fell down early this morning. The run was good and weather was cold but not chilly. Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving I vowed to my wife I am at here disposal. Right now I am taking a break ( a short one). There will be a lot of people and food on Thanksgiving. I want my house to look good both inside and out. Well, time to get back to work. I want to thank everyone for their notes of encouragement. It is good to know there are a network of people helping each other to pursue their goals and dreams. Also, I want everyone to enjoy their family and friends on Thanksgiving. Be thankful we live in a country that allows us to celebrate the freedoms that made this country great.
